Description

Selank (also TP-7) is a synthetic heptapeptide developed from the naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) by adding a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro sequence. The modification significantly enhances metabolic stability without compromising tuftsin’s biological activity. The sequence is Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro.

Selank was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and has been approved in Russia since 2009 for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorders and neurasthenic conditions. Per study reports, the compound is investigated as a selective, non-sedating anxiolytic candidate that operates without the typical drawbacks of classical benzodiazepines (sedation, cognitive impairment, dependence potential).

The mechanism of action is multifactorial. In research models, effects are observed on the GABAergic system (via modulation of receptor subunit expression rather than direct binding), serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways, BDNF upregulation in hippocampus and frontal cortex as well as inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes. The latter explains the stress resilience-promoting effects in studies.

The immunomodulatory component is preserved from the tuftsin precursor: stimulation of IL-6 production, modulation of Th1/Th2 balance and activation of phagocytes in research settings. Per study reports, Selank is used intranasally or subcutaneously.

In the community, Selank is frequently investigated alongside Semax, as both compounds originate from the same Russian research program and address complementary pathways.

This variant is a ready-to-use nasal spray: 10mg of Selank dissolved in 5 ml saline and 0.4 ml bacteriostatic water (5.4 ml in total), nothing to mix yourself. One spray (0.1 ml) delivers about 185 mcg. A bottle lasts for about 50 sprays. It is made fresh once you place your order and ships as an express item. As a powder for reconstitution, Selank remains available in vials.

Risks & Safety

Selank is considered very well tolerated per study reports. Across the available preclinical and Russian clinical studies, the compound has consistently been described as low in side effects, without the typical drawbacks of classical benzodiazepines.

Observed in research and user reports:

  • Intranasal irritation: with intranasal use, mild burning, dryness or irritation of the nasal mucosa is the most common observation.
  • Fatigue and mood: occasional reports of brief fatigue or a noticeable calming, as the compound addresses anxiolytic pathways. Pronounced sedation is not typical in the literature.
  • Limited long-term data: robust long-term human studies and data outside the Russian research program are largely lacking.

This classification does not replace medical advice. Risk and responsibility for any actual use lie entirely with the buyer.

Still have a question?

Write to us, our team will help you.

Is Selank approved?

In Russia yes, as nasal drops for anxiety and restlessness, neurasthenia and stress. Not in the EU or the USA. The registry ClinicalTrials.gov lists no trial. A US review calls Selank a poorly studied Russian drug.

What do the human trials show?

Three small Russian trials: 62 patients with anxiety disorder or neurasthenia, Selank was about as anxiolytic as medazepam with an added effect on fatigue. 60 patients compared with phenazepam, the effect lasted a week after the last dose. In 70 patients Selank as an add-on reduced side effects of phenazepam.

How is Selank supposed to work?

It is not fully clear. In the lab Selank slowed enzymes that break down enkephalins. On brain membranes it enhanced the binding of GABA, in rats it changed GABA signalling genes much like GABA itself. In rats after long alcohol intake it prevented a rise in BDNF in the brain and protected memory.

How well is Selank absorbed via the nose?

According to the Russian label, 92.8 percent. After 30 seconds it is in the blood, after 5 to 5.5 minutes the level there has fallen again. It reaches the brain and is quickly broken down by enzymes in the tissue.

Is Selank addictive?

Russian papers report that, unlike benzodiazepines, Selank does not cause dependence or withdrawal. There are no large independent studies on this.

Which side effects are known?

The Russian label lists allergic reactions and an unpleasant taste when the drops run into the throat. It is not intended there during pregnancy and breastfeeding or under 18 years.
