Description
Acetic Acid 0.6% is a diluted acetic acid solution used as an alternative reconstitution solvent for selected peptides. While Bacteriostatic Water is the standard solvent for most peptides, there are some compounds for which diluted acetic acid produces more stable solutions.
The background lies in peptide stability in aqueous solutions. Some peptides, especially those with a high proportion of basic amino acids or specific structures, tend to aggregate or rapidly degrade at neutral pH. A weakly acidic solution (Acetic Acid 0.6% is at approximately pH 3-4) can substantially improve the stability of these peptides. The most prominent example in research literature is BPC-157, which is explicitly reconstituted in diluted acetic acid in some research protocols.
In research setups, Acetic Acid 0.6% is handled identically to Bacteriostatic Water: defined volumes are used for the reconstitution of lyophilized peptides, with the difference that the final solution is slightly acidic. For most peptides, this pH shift is irrelevant, but for sensitive compounds it can be decisive for storage stability.
The 0.6% concentration is an established standard in peptide research literature. Higher concentrations can compromise peptide integrity, lower ones provide too little pH stabilization.

Acetic Acid 0.6% is a reconstitution solvent for hard-to-dissolve peptides and not an active compound, so the risk classification concerns handling and sterility rather than physiological effects.
What matters in handling:
- Irritant in concentrated form: acetic acid is irritant in concentrated form. The 0.6 percent dilution is an established standard; higher concentrations can both compromise peptide integrity and increase the irritant effect.
- Sterility and contamination risk: as with any reconstitution solvent, non-sterile technique or storage beyond the stability window increase the contamination risk. Visible cloudiness or particles mean the vial should no longer be used.
- Not suitable for all peptides: the weakly acidic solution is intended for compounds with solubility issues in neutral water. Peptides with pH-sensitive structures can degrade in an acidic environment, so compound-specific solvent recommendations should be checked before use.
