Description

GHRP-2 (Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide-2) is a synthetic hexapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor (GHSR-1a) and thus belongs to the class of GH secretagogues. Structurally, GHRP-2 differs fundamentally from endogenous ghrelin, but functionally it activates the same receptor and triggers a comparable GH secretion response.

In research context, the central mechanism lies in activation of GHSR-1a in somatotrope cells of the anterior pituitary, leading to pulsatile GH release. In contrast to ipamorelin, which is highly selective for GHSR-1a, GHRP-2 has a slightly broader activity profile with moderate activity on cortisol and prolactin secretion. This characteristic makes the compound a distinct research tool within the GHRP family.

In preclinical studies, GHRP-2 has been documented with substantial GH level increases after application. With a half-life of approximately 15-60 minutes, it is short, requiring frequent application intervals in research setups. In animal models, GHRP-2 has been characterized as one of the most potent GH secretagogues in the GHRP family.

GHRP-2 is an older compound within the GH secretagogue class and has a substantial research history reaching back into the 1990s. In modern research setups, switching to ipamorelin is common due to better selectivity, but GHRP-2 remains relevant for comparative studies and potency-focused research questions.

GHRP-2 is available in 5mg vials as 10-vial packs.

Risks & Safety

GHRP-2 is considered well tolerated per study reports. As a ghrelin receptor agonist, the compound stimulates the body’s own GH secretion, but has a slightly broader activity profile compared to Ipamorelin.

Observed in research and user reports:

  • Injection site: mild redness, pressure or transient irritation at the injection site is the most common observation with subcutaneous use.
  • GH-typical effects: as is common with GH secretagogues, the literature describes transient water retention as well as numbness or tingling in the hands (carpal-tunnel-type symptoms), usually dose-dependent and reversible.
  • Cortisol and prolactin: unlike the selective Ipamorelin, GHRP-2 shows a moderate elevation of cortisol and prolactin in studies, as well as increased hunger perception.
  • Glucose metabolism: elevated GH levels can raise fasting blood glucose and transiently reduce insulin sensitivity in studies.
  • No long-term data: robust long-term human studies for research use do not exist. The profile rests primarily on short-term studies and anecdotal experience.

This classification does not replace medical advice. Risk and responsibility for any actual use lie entirely with the buyer.

Still have a question?

Write to us, our team will help you.

Is GHRP-2 approved?

Only in Japan and there as a test agent: with one dose doctors check whether the pituitary gland makes enough growth hormone. ChEMBL lists pralmorelin with phase 2 as the highest phase, Japanese registries list trials of the test. There is no approval for muscle building, performance or anti-ageing.

How does the GHRP-2 test work?

After one dose into a vein, blood is drawn for two hours. In 77 healthy adults the peak averaged 84.6 ng/ml, in 58 patients with severe GH deficiency 1.36 ng/ml. Below 15 ng/ml (9 ng/ml with the newer WHO standard) this points to severe deficiency. In Japan the test is seen as a convenient and safe alternative to the insulin tolerance test.

Why does GHRP-2 cause hunger?

GHRP-2 mimics ghrelin, a hormone from the stomach that stimulates appetite as well as growth hormone. In 7 healthy men food intake rose by 35.9 percent. In children with GH deficiency 7 of 10 reported more appetite in the first months, but body mass index did not rise significantly.

Does GHRP-2 help growth?

In 6 children with GH deficiency night-time growth hormone rose with the dose and they grew faster during treatment. IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 did not rise, however. The effect of each dose was short. The authors concluded that longer-acting forms would be needed.

How does GHRP-2 differ from GHRP-6?

Both act on the ghrelin receptor. GHRP-6 was described in 1984 as the first peptide of this kind, GHRP-2 came later and became a test agent in Japan. We did not find a direct human comparison of the two in the sources we checked.

Which side effects are known?

In the study with 6 children over 8 months no side effects or organ damage were observed. The appetite effect is known. Reviews of GH secretagogues also list higher prolactin and cortisol, fluid retention, muscle and joint pain, blood sugar disturbances and injection-site reactions.
