Knowledge

Everything about Salbutamol

Description

Salbutamol (Albuterol) is a selective beta-2 adrenoceptor agonist, used worldwide as a short-acting bronchodilator in asthma therapy. In anabolic community contexts, Salbutamol is used as a milder cousin of Clenbuterol: similar mechanism, substantially shorter half-life, less cardiac stress.

Per study reports Salbutamol activates beta-2 receptors in skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, adipose tissue and bronchi. Like Clenbuterol, the substance raises lipolysis and thermogenesis and relaxes bronchial smooth muscle. Anti-catabolic action at skeletal muscle is also documented but lower than under Clenbuterol.

The main difference is in pharmacokinetics: Salbutamol has a half-life of only 4-6 hours versus 26-34 hours for Clenbuterol. This means 3-4 doses per day and a short action profile per dose. In cutting research this profile is used either as pre-workout (acute thermogenesis) or distributed over the day.

The shorter half-life has an important advantage: beta-2 receptor desensitization sets in more slowly than under Clenbuterol. In some research protocols Salbutamol is therefore used for longer continuous cycles, while Clenbuterol typically comes in 2-week pulses.

Known effects are dose-dependent: tremor, palpitations, hypokalemia. Incidence of severe cardiac effects is lower than under Clenbuterol because peak values and dwell time are lower.

You can order Salbutamol as oral tablets in one bottle of 100 tablets with 20mg each.

Risks & Safety

Salbutamol sits in the mid range of the risk scale. As a beta-2 agonist the compound shares the mechanism of Clenbuterol, but its short half-life makes the cardiac profile milder.

Documented in studies and the literature:

  • Tremor: shaking, especially of the hands, is one of the most commonly documented dose-dependent observations.
  • Tachycardia: palpitations and raised pulse are documented, though the incidence of severe cardiac effects is lower than under Clenbuterol.
  • Jitteriness: nervousness and inner restlessness are described in the literature as accompanying effects of beta-2 stimulation.
  • Hypokalemia: beta-2 activation can cause a potassium shift with multiple daily doses.

Monitoring via bloodwork is recommended. This classification does not replace medical advice. Risk and responsibility for any actual use lie entirely with the buyer.

How does salbutamol work?

It activates beta-2 receptors. More cAMP forms in the cell, the smooth muscle of the bronchi relaxes and fewer inflammatory substances are released from mast cells. According to the label 10 to 50 percent of the receptors in the heart are also beta-2, hence palpitations and a fast pulse.

Is salbutamol approved?

Yes. ChEMBL lists salbutamol as an approved compound with first approval in 1981. On ClinicalTrials.gov 951 trials list salbutamol or albuterol among their interventions (as of 26 October 2026). Everything here is the state of research, not a recommendation.

How is the tablet different from the inhaler?

The tablet reaches the blood via stomach, gut and liver and acts throughout the body. According to the label the peak level comes after 2 to 3 hours. The amounts of inhaler and tablet cannot be transferred. According to Hostrup and colleagues inhaled salbutamol reaches high blood levels even more easily relative to the amount than the tablet.

Does salbutamol increase performance?

In the usual inhaled amount studies in healthy athletes showed no advantage: neither in 20 football players across six tests nor in 7 elite cyclists. A 2024 review notes that very high inhaled amounts increase strength and short intense performance and that oral use is regarded as performance enhancing, up to more muscle mass.

Which side effects are typical?

On tablets the label lists nervousness and tremor at 20 percent each, headache at 7 percent, palpitations and fast pulse at 5 percent each. Chest discomfort, heart rhythm disorders and allergic reactions are described less often.

What happens with too much?

According to the label an overdose shows as excessive beta stimulation: racing heart up to 200 beats per minute, chest pain, high blood pressure, tremor, nausea and insomnia. Seizures, heart rhythm disorders and low potassium can follow.
