Description

Trestolone Acetate (MENT, 7α-Methyl-19-Nortestosterone Acetate) is a synthetic 19-nortestosterone derivative with additional 7α-methyl modification. The substance was developed by the Population Council in the 1990s as a potential male contraceptive - Phase II studies showed sperm suppression at low test levels.

Per study reports MENT binds with high affinity to the androgen receptor. The substance aromatizes to 7α-methyl-estradiol, bringing the classical estrogen protection effect but also enabling water retention and potential gynecomastia findings. The 7α-methyl group makes MENT resistant to 5α-reduction, reducing prostate effects.

An important property: MENT is about 10x more potent than testosterone as an anabolic substance. The contraceptive studies used 1-2mg/day transdermally to suppress sperm production with clinically normal test levels.

In recreational research practice MENT as acetate ester only acts briefly (half-life ~24 hours), requiring daily injections. This makes the compound impractical for standard cycles - most use is restricted to TRT research setups or short pre-contest phases.

Known effects in studies: strong HPG suppression (that was the contraceptive design goal), moderate aromatization, low 5α-reduction. The lipid profile worsens markedly under MENT in available studies.

Trestolone is on the WADA banned list.

You can order Trestolone Acetate as an oily injection solution in 10-pack at 50mg/ml.

Risks & Safety

Trestolone Acetate is about ten times more potent than testosterone - the effects described in the literature are correspondingly pronounced. The strong HPG suppression was even the contraceptive design goal of the substance.

Documented in studies and the application literature:

  • Strong HPG suppression: MENT was developed as a male contraceptive, the suppression of sperm production and endogenous testosterone production is documented in Phase II studies. Recovery after discontinuation is not guaranteed.
  • Aromatization: MENT converts to 7-alpha-methyl-estradiol, with documented moderate estrogen effects including water retention and potential gynecomastia risk.
  • Progestagenic component: as a 19-nor derivative there is a progestagenic residual action, as described for related Nandrolon compounds.
  • Cardiovascular: in the available studies the lipid profile worsens markedly under MENT. The 7-alpha-methyl group reduces 5-alpha-reduction and thus prostate effects.

Baseline bloodwork before, during and after a research protocol is strongly advised. This classification does not replace medical advice. Risk and responsibility for any actual use lie entirely with the buyer.

What is trestolone acetate (MENT)?

A synthetic androgen from the 19-nortestosterone family with an extra methyl group. The Population Council developed it as replacement in testosterone deficiency and for hormonal male contraception. In the trials the acetate was used in implants, in the body it is quickly split into MENT.

Why is MENT considered prostate-sparing?

In the prostate testosterone is converted by 5-alpha reductase into the stronger DHT, MENT is not. In rats MENT was ten times as potent as testosterone on muscle but only four times on prostate and seminal vesicle. In monkeys it was ten times as potent for body weight but only twice for the prostate. In hypogonadal men PSA fell under MENT.

What happens to sperm and the hormone axis?

With two or four implants testosterone fell by 93 percent on average, LH by 97 and FSH by 95 percent, all values fully recovered after removal. In the contraception trial 8 of 12 men had no sperm left at the highest level, none at the lowest. Together with progestogen implants 8 of 10 men were below 1 million sperm per ml after 12 weeks.

Can MENT replace testosterone?

In 20 hypogonadal men MENT affected sexual interest, erections and mood similarly to testosterone enanthate. In a 24-week trial two implants maintained most androgen-dependent functions, one implant was not enough. Lumbar spine bone density fell in both groups. The authors see this as a sign that enough oestrogen action matters.

Which receptors does MENT bind to?

In cell assays MENT activated the androgen receptor about ten times as potently as testosterone and DHT and the progesterone receptor about as efficiently as progesterone. Its metabolite 7α-methyl-estradiol acted at both oestrogen receptors similarly to estradiol.

Which side effects were seen?

In the contraception trial the changes typical of androgens occurred: more red blood cells, higher haematocrit and haemoglobin, less SHBG, all reversible. Blood lipids changed moderately and transiently, liver values slightly. In a second trial haemoglobin rose and HDL cholesterol fell. 6 men reported lower libido there.

Is MENT approved?

No. ClinicalTrials.gov lists one completed phase 1 trial (blood pressure, MENT as a gel), the implant trials are not listed there. ChEMBL lists trestolone acetate with phase 2 as the highest phase, without approval. Everything here is the state of research, not a recommendation.
