Description
Adipotide (also Prohibitin-TP01 or FTPP, Fat-Targeted Pro-apoptotic Peptide) is a synthetic peptide conjugate consisting of two functional domains: a targeting motif that binds specifically to prohibitin in the vascular lining of white adipocytes, and a pro-apoptotic sequence motif that induces apoptosis in target cells. Structurally it is a 21-amino-acid peptide with defined folding.
The research mechanism is unusually precise: adipotide does not address adipocyte volume or lipid metabolism, but the microvascular supply of adipose tissue. In preclinical studies (especially from the Arap and Pasqualini lab at MD Anderson Cancer Center), it was shown that adipotide selectively addresses the endothelial lining of adipose tissue microvasculature and thereby reduces metabolic supply to the tissue.
In animal models, effects on adipocyte volume over several weeks have been documented with adipotide. The compound database is substantial for an experimental research tool, although earlier investigations have also identified safety concerns at higher dosages that must be considered in research.
In research setups, adipotide is one of the most mechanistically differentiated compounds in obesity research, with an action principle clearly distinct from GLP-1 or mitochondrial pathways.

Risks & Safety
Adipotide is an experimental research tool with an unusually specific, vascularly acting mechanism. Unlike the well-tolerated lipotropic blends, earlier investigations have explicitly documented safety concerns for adipotide at higher dosages.
Observed in studies and user reports:
- Renal observations: the primate studies documented reversible effects on kidney function at higher dosages, which clearly distinguishes adipotide from the mild fat-loss compounds.
- Dose dependence: the safety profile worsens in the literature with increasing dosage, which is why the data argue for narrow dosing windows.
- Injection site: mild redness, pressure or transient irritation at the injection site is documented.
- No long-term data: robust human studies do not exist, and the classification rests on rodent and primate models in which safety signals appeared.
