Description
GHK Basic is the tripeptide Glycyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine in pure peptide form without the copper complex (Cu++). Unlike classical GHK-Cu, where the peptide forms a high-affinity binding complex with bivalent copper, GHK Basic is the uncomplexed form.
Per study reports the natural GHK peptide binds in the body to copper ions with high affinity (Kd ~10^-16 M). This binding is the basis of GHK-Cu research. Separate administration of GHK Basic and copper sources allows finer steering of the ratio in specialized research setups.
Preclinical studies document GHK effects on collagen synthesis, glycosaminoglycan production, wound healing, skin regeneration, and gene expression in over 4,000 genes. The central mechanisms are associated with the copper complex - GHK Basic without copper supplementation has correspondingly reduced action.
In research practice GHK Basic is primarily used in setups where copper availability is limited or undesired, or where the GHK peptide should be investigated without copper-specific effects.
Typical application is subcutaneous or topical in 6-10 week courses.

Risks & Safety
GHK Basic is considered well tolerated per study reports. As the uncomplexed peptide form without the copper complex, the compound shows a mild profile that is in parts even less irritating than copper-containing GHK-Cu.
Observed in research and user reports:
- Injection site: mild redness, pressure or transient irritation at the injection site with subcutaneous use. Without the copper complex, local irritation tends to be lower than with GHK-Cu.
- Circulation: isolated reports of brief fatigue or a feeling of warmth shortly after application.
- Reduced action without copper: GHK Basic without copper supplementation has substantially reduced action, as the central mechanisms are associated with the copper complex - this is primarily an efficacy question, not a safety one.
- No long-term data: robust long-term human studies do not exist. The safety profile is largely derived from GHK-Cu research.
