Everything about Pinealon

Description

Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide with the amino acid sequence Glu-Asp-Arg (glutamine-aspartate-arginine), developed within the Khavinson program at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology. Vladimir Khavinson and his team have characterized a family of short peptides over several decades that show tissue-specific effects in preclinical studies. Pinealon is one of the best-known members of this tripeptide family, with focus on neuronal function.

In research context, pinealon is associated with the pineal gland axis and neuronal plasticity pathways. The central research hypothesis in Khavinson literature: short peptides can enter the cell nucleus, bind to specific DNA sequences and modulate gene expression patterns. This epigenetic mechanism hypothesis is controversial in international research but has a substantial data base in Russian and Eastern European preclinical studies.

Observed research effects include modulation of antioxidative pathways, reduction of oxidative stress in neuronal cell cultures and effects on behavior in animal models. In aging models, pinealon has been associated with extended anagen phase of neuronal cells and reduced age-related neuronal apoptosis.

Pinealon is offered in our portfolio in the extended Innopeptide variant, with higher active substance concentration than the original standard form.

Pinealon is available in 50mg vials as 10-vial packs.

Risks & Safety

Pinealon is considered very well tolerated per study reports. Like other short Khavinson peptides, the compound is described as remarkably low in side effects across the available preclinical literature.

Observed in research and user reports:

  • Injection site: mild redness or pressure at the injection site is the most common observation, typical for subcutaneously applied peptides.
  • Very mild profile: Khavinson tripeptides are described in animal models without significant toxic effects, even at high dosages.
  • Controversial mechanism: the epigenetic mechanism hypothesis (short peptides binding to DNA sequences) is controversial in international research, which complicates assessment of the biological effects.
  • Data base and long-term data: the evidence comes predominantly from Russian and Eastern European preclinical studies. Robust long-term human data are largely lacking.

This classification does not replace medical advice. Risk and responsibility for any actual use lie entirely with the buyer.

Still have a question?

Write to us, our team will help you.

Is Pinealon approved or studied in humans?

As of 26 October 2026 ClinicalTrials.gov lists no trial with Pinealon. A review by the Khavinson group mentions use as a tablet in older people and in 72 patients after a traumatic brain injury. These reports are neither registered nor independently checked. No approval as a medicine is known.

What is Pinealon made of?

Of three amino acids: glutamic acid, aspartic acid and arginine, EDR for short. The molecular formula is C15H26N6O8. According to the research group the sequence comes from a peptide mixture from brain tissue that is used as a medicine in Russia.

What did the cell experiments show?

In cerebellar nerve cells, neutrophils and PC12 cells Pinealon curbed the formation of reactive oxygen species under oxidative stress, depending on the amount. Fewer cells died. There was also a delayed activation of the ERK 1/2 pathway and a changed cell cycle.

What did the animal studies show?

Pregnant rats received a lot of methionine, which raises homocysteine levels. When they also received Pinealon, their offspring oriented better in space and learned faster. Their cerebellar cells withstood oxidative stress better. In an Alzheimer model in mice EDR prevented the loss of synaptic spines.

How is such a short peptide supposed to work?

The Khavinson group assumes that EDR enters the cell and binds to histones or DNA. On the computer it found binding sites in the control regions of genes such as CASP3, SOD2, APOE and PPARA. Another model shows that EDR fits into the transporters PepT1 and LAT1. Whether this happens in the body has not been shown.

What about nerve cells of older people?

A paper from 2024 converted skin cells from older donors into nerve cells in the lab. There EDR promoted branching of the dendrites and lowered oxidative damage to DNA. It had no effect on mitochondria, lysosomes or the ageing marker p16.

Which side effects are known?

There are no solid data because Pinealon has never been tested in a registered human trial. Statements about good tolerability come from the research group itself.
