Description

Pancragen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Trp) is a synthetic tetrapeptide of the Khavinson bioregulator class with tissue-specific action on the pancreas, particularly endocrine islet cell function. The substance was developed at the St. Petersburg Institute for investigating age-related pancreas function changes.

Per study reports Pancragen modulates gene expression in beta and alpha cells of the pancreas via the Khavinson epigenetic mechanism. Preclinical studies describe effects on insulin secretion kinetics, islet cell regeneration and glucose metabolism markers in aging models.

In Russian research literature Pancragen is used in pre-diabetes and type-2 diabetes research setups, with documented improvements in fasting glucose and HbA1c in older populations.

Typical application is subcutaneous in 10-20 day courses two to three times per year.

You can order Pancragen as lyophilized peptide in 10-pack at 20mg per vial.

Risks & Safety

Pancragen is classified as very mild in the available literature and is among the most well tolerated compounds of the Khavinson bioregulator class. In the available preclinical and limited human studies, no relevant toxic effects have been documented.

Observed in research and reports:

  • Injection site: mild redness or transient irritation with subcutaneous use is the most common observation. The tetrapeptide itself is considered low-reactivity.
  • Very thin human data: the data base consists almost entirely of small, Russian-language studies from the Khavinson environment. Independent peer-reviewed replication and robust long-term data on use in glucose metabolism are absent.
  • Course-based pattern: the use described occurs in short 10-20 day courses. No data exist on the safety profile of continuous administration.

This classification does not replace medical advice. Risk and responsibility for any actual use lie entirely with the buyer.

Still have a question?

Write to us, our team will help you.

Is Pancragen approved or studied in humans?

As of 26 October 2026 ClinicalTrials.gov lists no trial with Pancragen. There is a small, unregistered observation in older people with type 2 diabetes from Kyiv in which the Khavinson group took part. No approval as a medicine is known.

What is Pancragen made of?

Of four amino acids: lysine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid and tryptophan, KEDW for short. The end carries an amide group (KEDW-NH2). The group describes the sequence as an endogenous tetrapeptide.

What did the cell cultures show?

In cultures of young and aged pancreatic cells Pancragen raised maturation factors of the gland cells (Pdx1, Ptf1a) and of the islets of Langerhans (Pdx1, Pax6, Pax4, Foxa2, Nkx2.2). Another paper found more markers of cell division such as Ki67 and PCNA and less of the cell death protein p53.

What did rats and monkeys show?

Rats with artificially induced diabetes had lower blood sugar under Pancragen. Adhesion at the wall of small vessels normalised. In old rhesus monkeys sugar left the blood faster after a load. Insulin and C-peptide behaved like in young animals again. Part of the effect lasted three weeks after stopping. In comparison a common diabetes drug lowered sugar more strongly.

What did the human observation show?

The study looked at 30 healthy older people and 33 with type 2 diabetes. With diabetes nightly melatonin production was 70 percent lower. Under Pancragen fasting sugar, insulin and the insulin resistance index fell, without Pancragen nothing changed. The paper is small and not registered. The abstract mentions neither blinding nor random assignment.

Which side effects are known?

There are no solid data because Pancragen has never been tested in a registered human trial. Statements about good tolerability come from the research group itself.

Who researches Pancragen?

Almost exclusively the group around Vladimir Khavinson at the St Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology and its partners, for example in Kyiv. Independent confirmation by other labs is still missing.
